Access Bridges - Overview

Download Detailspdf

The design of the access bridge to a pontoon defines the quality of the project. Intermarine manufactures pedestrian access bridges up to 40m long.

Bridges up to 12m.

Bridges up to 12m long can be made with reinforced pontoon decks. These have the following advantages:

  • Full width to match the pontoons
  • Non structural handrails
  • Built in buoyancy
  • No-step transitions

Access Bridges – Standard Units

Standard Truss Bridges

  Length Internal Width
SB12 12m 1.5m
SB15 15m 1.5m
SB20 20m 1.5m
SB25 25m 1.5m

Standard Specification.

  • Truss construction from steel or aluminium
  • 2.5kN/m2 live load
  • Hardwood boards similar to the pontoon systems
  • Handrails at 1.1m down both sides
  • Hinge bearings at the top and roller bearings at the bottom

Options

  • Live load increase to 4kN/m2
  • Alternative decking materials – see section on alternative decking

Access Bridges – Special Designs

Special Designs

  • Wider or narrower bridges
  • Alternative bearings such as pivots or hinges at the bottom
  • Additional handrails for special needs

Bridge Landing

Every bridge must have a landing designed to support the load imposed by the bridge under full live load. This is individually designed for each project.

Gates

A wide variety of gate designs have been used in Intermarine projects. These range from full security gates with card or keyboard control systems to simple low level units. It is most common to fit gates on shore at the top of the access bridge but they can also be fitted to the access bridge or on the pontoons.

Each location requires individual assessment and design.

Interfloat - Specification

The Interfloat pontoon system is a modular design that is suitable for use in coastal marinas or exposed inland waters.

Structure

The pontoons have a reinforced concrete structure with integral expanded buoyancy. Reinforcement near the surface is galvanised.

Pontoons can be supplied with textile or painted protection to the base of the polystyrene. Alternative heavier duty treatments can be supplied where required.

Connections

The units are connected end to end with flexible connections compromising M37 galvanised bolts and rubber bushes. Units may be connected side to end by prior design.

Moorings

The pontoons may be fixed either by pile or flexible moorings. 4 No. mooring points with access from the deck are built into the structure.

Service Ducts

Continuous top access service ducts may be built into all units down both sides. Ducts are fitted with anodished aluminium covers as standard.

Fenders

Walkways are fitted as standard with 145x70mm softwood fenders.

Lifting Points

For safe handling built in lifting points are included in all units
